How to use eSIM when traveling abroad?

Which countries does the Truecaller eSIM cover?

Currently users from 29 countries can buy an eSIM from Truecaller. You can see the full list of supported destinations in the app & website before purchasing. If your destination isn't listed, it isn't currently available.

Do I need a new eSIM for every country I visit?

No. Once the eSIM is installed on your device, it stays there. What you purchase is a data plan for a specific country or region. If your current plan expires or doesn't cover your next destination, just buy a new plan and the same eSIM will be re-used.

Can I use the same eSIM in another country?

Yes, you can use the same eSIM in a different country if you purchased a Regional plan and both your original destination and the next country/ countries are in the same region. However, if you purchased a single-country plan, then you will first have to buy a plan specific to the next country for the eSIM to work.

When should I enable the eSIM?

Enable the eSIM line before you land so it's ready to connect as soon as you arrive. To enable it, go to Settings > Cellular/Mobile Service > [your Travel plan] and "Turn On This Line." Your plan activates automatically on your first data connection in the destination country, so there's no risk of it starting early.

Should I turn on "Data Roaming" for the eSIM?

Yes. For the Truecaller eSIM to connect to local networks abroad, Data Roaming must be on. Go to Settings > Cellular / Mobile Service > [your Travel plan] > turn on "Data Roaming"

For your primary SIM, keep Data Roaming off to avoid charges from your home carrier.

Which SIM should be set as the data SIM?

Set your Truecaller eSIM as the data SIM. Go to Settings > Cellular / Mobile Service > Cellular / Mobile Data and select your Travel plan. This ensures your primary SIM isn't used for data while you're abroad.

Should I disable "Allow Cellular Data Switching"?

Yes. With this option on, your iPhone can fall back to your primary SIM if the eSIM signal is weak, which can lead to unexpected charges from your home carrier. Turn it off in Settings > Cellular / Mobile Service > Cellular / Mobile Data > Allow Cellular Data Switching.

Can I keep using WhatsApp and iMessage on my regular number?

Yes. WhatsApp and iMessage are tied to your primary SIM number, not the eSIM. They'll continue working normally as long as you have data through the Truecaller eSIM.

Does the Truecaller eSIM come with a phone number?

No. Truecaller eSIM plans provide data only. No calls or SMS are included.

Can I make calls while using the eSIM?

You can make calls over data using apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Telegram. Traditional calls using your primary number are still possible but go through your home carrier and may incur international roaming charges.

Can I use the Truecaller eSIM as a hotspot?

Yes. You can share your eSIM data connection with other devices via hotspot/tethering from Settings > Cellular / Mobile Service > Personal Hotspot.
