Caller ID for WhatsApp

Truecaller is now able to identify unknown callers from WhatsApp on your phone. The easiest way to enable this feature is to:

  1. On your device, open the Truecaller app

  2. Click on Settings>Calls>Enable option>Identify calls on other apps Truecaller

  3. Truecaller App>Settings>Calls>Enable>Show calls from other apps

Why does Truecaller need notification permission?

Notification access is needed for Truecaller to monitor notifications from WhatsApp and other messaging apps as that’s the only way to check when you have an incoming call or a message from an unknown number. Enabling this permission allows us to detect when a WhatsApp call is happening and show a caller id of who’s calling.

We want to assure you that enabling notification access will not compromise your privacy. Our app will only use this permission to provide you with information about unknown numbers in WhatsApp and other messaging apps, and will not read your messages or access any other information from other apps

Xiaomi users
If you're a Xiaomi user and you try to grant notification access permission, you may come across a warning screen that mentions "Danger." However, there's no need to worry. Xiaomi is simply taking steps to protect its users and ensure that users are making informed decisions about which apps they want to grant permission to. It's worth noting that all system permissions use the same screen on a Xiaomi device.

Truecaller APK installs on Android 13 and above:

If you’ve installed the Truecaller APK outside official App stores like Google Play, Xiaomi store etc, you’ll have to Allow restricted settings for enabling Notification Access to Truecaller. Follow the steps to Allow restricted settings:

  1. Go to the OS Settings of the device.

  2. Go to Application > See all apps > Truecaller.

  3. Tap the " ⋮ " button which is on the upper right corner of the page.

  4. Tap Allow restricted settings.

Q. Is it safe?

Yes, the whole idea behind this feature is to provide you with as much information as possible about the incoming unknown WhatsApp call so you can make an educated decision if you want to pick it up or not or to alert you if the caller is a known fraud or spam number.

Q. Will I be able to block these calls?

Truecaller is unable to block calls within third-party messaging apps, such as WhatsApp. However, it can assist with caller identification.

Please note that the feature to identify unknown callers on WhatsApp is provided by Truecaller only, and Truecaller is solely responsible for the feature. This is not a collaboration between Truecaller and WhatsApp. Any questions or complaints should be directed toward Truecaller.
